Convert an Outlook .pst file to EML

Extract every email from an Outlook .pst into standard .eml files (folder structure kept), plus optional .mbox and PDF. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Open the converter Free for up to 25 emails per export · no sign-up

.eml is the portable format for single emails: Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Windows Mail and most archiving and e-discovery tools open it. Mailtrail rebuilds each PST message as standard MIME, using the original internet headers when Outlook stored them, and writes one .eml per email.

How to do it

  1. Open the converter in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.
  2. Drop the .pst file.
  3. Under Output, tick .eml per email (and .mbox per folder if you want to import into Thunderbird or Apple Mail). Untick PDF if you don't need it.
  4. Export. The ZIP mirrors your Outlook folders: Inbox/2024-01-15_0930 Jane Doe - Contract.eml.

What is kept

Outlook-specific data (categories, flags, follow-up dates) has no place in .eml and is dropped. Calendar items and contacts are skipped.

What you get

Private by design

The conversion runs inside your browser tab with Web Workers. Your archive is never uploaded, and there is no server that could see it. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads. The only network call is the optional license-key check, which sends the key and a random device ID.

Questions

Can I convert EML back to PST?

No, writing PST is not supported. Outlook can import .eml by dragging the files into a folder.

What does it cost?

Free for up to 25 emails per export. Standard ($29 one-time) removes the limit; Pro ($69 one-time) adds Bates numbering, page numbers, hashes and bookmarked merged PDFs. See pricing.
