One PDF per email

Header block, readable body with embedded images, attachment list. File names sort by date: 2024-03-05_0912 Jane Doe - Invoice.pdf.

Folders kept

Outlook folders, Gmail labels and Thunderbird subfolders become folders in the ZIP.

Search before you export

Filter by folder, date range, sender, subject or attachments. Preview any email. Untick what you don't need.

Big archives

Multi-GB files are streamed with Web Workers, not loaded into memory. Chrome and Edge write the ZIP straight to disk.

How it works

  1. Open the converter and drop your archive (or a folder of them).
  2. It reads the archive in the page itself, with no upload, and lists every email. Search, filter and pick.
  3. Choose outputs and click Export. You get a ZIP like this:

FAQ

Is my email really not uploaded?

Yes. The converter is a static web page; the parsing, PDF rendering and ZIP building happen in your browser with Web Workers. You can load the page, disconnect from the internet and convert. The only request we ever receive is the license-key check (key + a random device ID). See the Privacy Policy.

Does it look exactly like in Outlook?

Close, not pixel-perfect. HTML emails are laid out as clean, searchable text with headings, lists, quotes, table rows and embedded images. Remote images (newsletters, tracking pixels) are never loaded, for privacy.

How big can the archive be?

We test with multi-GB files. MBOX and PST are read in chunks, so input size is limited mainly by disk space and time (in our test, a 1.3 GB mailbox with 10,000 emails was read in 12 seconds and converted in under 80 seconds on an 8-core computer; heavy HTML newsletters are slower). Use Chrome or Edge for very large exports: they save the ZIP directly to disk. Firefox and Safari build the ZIP in memory, which is fine up to a few GB.

Which browsers?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Can it write PST files or remove PST passwords?

No. PSTs are read only, and password-protected files are not unlocked.

Who am I buying from?

Mailtrail is made by Konsensus LLC. Payments are handled by our reseller Paddle.com, the Merchant of Record, which also issues your receipt and handles billing questions and refunds.
